"Famous" mince pies

Christmas mince pies are as much a part of a Kiwi Christmas as Santa, the beach and pohutakawas. The festive treats grace the tables of thousands of Kiwis every year and this year you could have a batch with a difference.

Thanks to the Baking Industry Association of NZ (BIANZ), 14 well-known Kiwis have put their baking skills to the test all in the name of a good cause. Each has made a batch of 6 Christmas mince pies, raising money for the Salvation Army.

The pies are being sold on Trade Me with every cent going to the Salvation Army's Christmas appeal.

The three famous chefs auctioning their pies - Al Brown, Michael Meredith and Simon Gault - are all solid bets if you're looking for a tasty treat made with experienced fingers.

However, if you're looking for something a little more 'rustic' and different, aim for Jono & Ben's pies or maybe some from our journalistic friends (check out the Breakfast crew's efforts below).

It's all in the name of a good cause so get stuck in and enjoy!
