While thousands of blokes around the country have been growing pesty facial hair for the past month, Wellington marketing firm EightyOne took a completely different tack to raise money for men’s mental health.
They have produced a series of drinks coasters.
These are not your normal set of coasters. They are a series of 15 individually designed artworks created with the same number of Kiwi rugby legends. Each coaster is the work of local designers and artists, featuring a member of the 1st XV talking about a major rugby moment in their life and how it affected them.
The big names attached to the project include David Kirk, Sean Fitzpatrick, Melodie Robinson, Nehe Milner-Skudder, Robbie Deans and former referee Bob Francis.
The purpose of the campaign is to trigger a chat among men who we all know aren’t always keen to raise the general topic of mental health, let alone open up about the personal issues that might be impacting their lives at any given time.
The coasters are going for $15 a pack, with all proceeds passed onto the Movember Foundation to assist their research, promotion, support and progress in tackling the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
