Mark Thomas lived aboard his yacht for 15 years before it hit the rocks in Waitemata Harbour and ran aground in Herne Bay.
The council requested Mark stump up tens of thousands of dollars to remove the boat from where it'd landed, but instead he turned to Trade Me hoping someone would take his beloved home off his hands.
He listed it with a tongue-in-cheek description, offering a "Herne Bay home" for just $2,500. Given the current outlook of the property market, it was a timely and apt marketing decision.
The eventual winner of the auction planned to take it to the Bay of Islands and settle it on a plot of land with ocean views, or failing that converting it into a pirate ship playground for kids, or a holiday rental property.
We just have to wonder; could he have sold it for moor?
