Over here in Trade Me land we have continued to work on how we can support macrons throughout the site. We’re doing this by updating our database to support unicode, which allows people to write in their language of choice. You can read more about the beginning of our journey from this post.
You can now include macrons and accents in your first and last name
This week we added the ability for members to include macrons (and other accents) when entering their first and last names. You can update your name from the contact details section on your My Trade Me page. While it may seem like a tiny area of the site that we’ve updated, it was a large piece of work with wide ranging impact to the code base. We wanted to update this and the member profile first, as a person’s name is an important part of their identity and they should be able to write it correctly.
Our end goal is to have Trade Me fully support unicode across all data we store and we’ll continue to work towards this.
