The humble moustache was a fashion staple for men of the 70s and 80s but fell out of favour in the flashy 90s – men’s upper lips quivered in the cold and were sunburnt in the heat of summer.
That was until two blokes sat in a Melbourne pub thinking about how they could revive the humble slug. Over a quiet beer, Movember was born.
Movemeber’s a great charity focused on promoting, protecting and raising awareness for men’s health both physically and mentally. It’s grown into a global movement with a great cause. Since it’s humble beginnings (with just 30 participants) there have been 5,232,625 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, $919 million (NZD) raised and 1,200 men’s health projects funded.
Not a bad record right? Also, it’s not all about bad (or good) facial hair there are other ways to participate including the Mo-ve challenge.
Trade Me is entering a team again – check us out and if you’re up for it throw a few dollars our way. Even Kev the Kiwi is getting into it (above).
A few of the freshfaced lads got together yesterday. We'll update with 'progress' in the weeks ahead.
