Paralympians are an inspiration - they are people who overcome major adversity to acheive incredible things in their chosen sport.
That's why we were proud to host the auctions for the Spirit of Gold collection, raising money for our paralypians recently.
The collection is a set of 12 portraits of some of New Zealand's most well-known and decorated paralympians and para athletes painted by Amber Stephens.
Amber painted the portraits in 2015 (with each taking 3-5 weeks) and they were taken to 85 stops around the country during the build up to the 2016 Rio games.
After being on display at Auckland's Easter show it was time for them to find a new home and for Paralympics NZ to raise some much needed money.
Unsurprisingly New Zealand's 'golden girl', Sophie Pascoe, received the most interest with nearly 6000 views and a sale price of $2710.
All in all the 12 portraits made well over $12,000 for Paralympics NZ - a great result.
Good luck to all our incredible athletes for their training and upcoming events as well as the Olympics in 2020!
